Oggi (23 luglio), ho avuto un'esperienza piuttosto traumatica quando sono entrato nella mia Tesla Model X dopo aver portato mia figlia all'appuntamento del suo medico al The Center di Bend. Nel momento in cui ho guardato il cruscotto vuoto ho capito che qualcosa non andava. L'auto era morta come un chiodo della porta. Nessun segno di potere. Così ho tentato di aprire la portiera e di uscire dalla macchina, solo per scoprire che ero intrappolato all'interno. Ho provato tutte le porte. Senza fortuna. Faceva caldo fuori, una giornata di 80 gradi, ed era tarda mattinata. Faceva già caldo all'interno del veicolo. Ho capito di essere intrappolato. Per fortuna avevo il mio cellulare. Ho chiamato mia moglie. È uscita dal Centro, dove si trovava con nostra figlia, e le ho detto cosa stava succedendo. Mi ha fatto provare un paio di procedure per ripristinare la programmazione del computer del veicolo. L'auto non ha risposto minimamente. Stava diventando più caldo e continuavo a pensare a neonati e cani che sono morti per surriscaldamento intrappolati all'interno delle auto parcheggiate. Mia moglie ha provato a chiamare Tesla Service Center a Portland. Non stava passando. Ho iniziato a sentirmi un po 'in preda al panico e le ho detto di chiamare il 911. Mi sono reso conto che non avevo niente in macchina che potessi usare per rompere i finestrini se avessi dovuto, ma sapevo che un agente avrebbe portato uno strumento per farlo. Mia moglie ha chiamato il 911 e ha detto al centralino la situazione. Il supervisore ha avuto la chiarezza e la calma di cercare nel manuale di Tesla alcune indicazioni su cosa fare in questa situazione. Ha scoperto che se avessi rimosso il rivestimento dell'altoparlante del sedile posteriore, avrei potuto raggiungere l'interno e tirare un cavo verso la parte anteriore dell'auto, rilasciando manualmente la portiera del falco. Ho seguito quelle procedure, trasmesse a me da mia moglie, e voilà. La porta del falco si è sbloccata e sono riuscito a uscire. Se fossi stato un bambino o un cane, odio pensare a come sarebbe potuto finire. La mia macchina finì per essere rimorchiata a Portland per il servizio, con un centesimo di Tesla. Non potrei essere più grato alla centralinista per il suo pensiero chiaro e veloce. Non conosco il suo nome, ma era il mio eroe in quel particolare giorno d'estate. Grazie, grazie, grazie.
