Bought a watch (Ball engineer hydrocarbon NEDU) Jan 24 unworn condition from a private seller on eBay (UK) . Watch sent to be authenticated in perfect condition, arrived to me with what looked suspiciously like watch holder damage on the case (G5 titanium).
Counted seller who contacted eBay who contacted the authenticator, now hear this...they responded by stating there was no damage when it left their premises.
Now...this is concerning for three main reasons.
1 . There is a serious flaws is their operating procedures and QC. The checks and balances will allow a watch to arrive damaged from them. Not good when dealt with very expensive watches.
2. Either the authenticator involved does not have the attention to detail required to authenticate high end watches and if they missed the obvious buff marks on the case how the hell can they observe/ notice fakes.
3. The authenticator did see the damage, but decided to deny any knowledge and show dishonesty.
None of the above are acceptable in this type of industry.
To be clear...the watch arrived from the authenticators well packed and the bubble wrap covering the watch face was still in place, proving the watch had not moved a millimetre during transit.
This case is still ongoing as they have still to provide a result after me sending it back for them to ' review' their incompetent handwork.
So in summary the authenticator eBay uses in the UK is a liability due to incompetence and dishonesty.
