The Peer Project - Youth Assisting Youth è un'organizzazione senza scopo di lucro che da oltre 40 anni investe nei leader di domani e trasforma la vita dei giovani a rischio e dei nuovi arrivati. Con sede a Toronto e nella regione di York, The Peer Project offre tutoraggio giovanile e programmi per giovani a rischio progettati per consentire ai giovani di raggiungere il loro pieno potenziale.
In The Peer Project, crediamo che ogni giovane meriti una possibilità di successo. Comprendiamo che molti giovani affrontano sfide significative nella loro vita, tra cui povertà, isolamento sociale, problemi di salute mentale e discriminazione. Ecco perché offriamo una gamma di programmi su misura per soddisfare le esigenze uniche di ogni individuo.
Il nostro programma di punta è il nostro programma di tutoraggio tra pari. Questo programma abbina i giovani a rischio a mentori volontari qualificati che sono essi stessi giovani di età compresa tra 16 e 29 anni. I nostri mentori provengono da background diversi e hanno sperimentato molte delle stesse sfide dei nostri allievi. Forniscono guida, supporto e amicizia per aiutare i loro allievi a superare gli ostacoli e raggiungere i loro obiettivi.
Il nostro programma di tutoraggio tra pari si è dimostrato efficace nell'aiutare i giovani a migliorare il loro rendimento scolastico, sviluppare relazioni positive con coetanei e adulti, costruire autostima e fiducia, ridurre comportamenti rischiosi come l'uso di droghe o il coinvolgimento di bande.
Oltre al nostro programma di tutoraggio tra pari, offriamo anche altri programmi come i club dei compiti dopo la scuola per gli studenti delle scuole elementari; laboratori di sviluppo della leadership per studenti delle scuole superiori; servizi di liquidazione per nuovi arrivati; formazione per la preparazione all'impiego; gruppi di supporto per la salute mentale; campi estivi; attività ricreative come squadre sportive o corsi d'arte.
Tutti i nostri programmi sono progettati con un'enfasi sulla costruzione della resilienza tra i partecipanti in modo che possano affrontare meglio le sfide della vita mentre sviluppano le competenze necessarie per il successo nell'età adulta.
Lavoriamo a stretto contatto con le scuole, le organizzazioni della comunità, le agenzie governative, i partner del settore privato, i volontari, i donatori, i finanziatori, tutte le parti interessate che condividono la nostra visione di responsabilizzare i giovani attraverso il tutoraggio tra pari.
