Erano gli anni '70 quando mia figlia dai capelli biondi e dagli occhi azzurri, che era ed era molto intelligente, frequentava la scuola elementare lì. È stata colpita allo stomaco e violentata verbalmente da altri bambini perché all'epoca era una zona abbastanza rurale. C'era, e forse lo è ancora. un molto anti-haoli (continentale, nuovo arrivato, bianco), sentimento tra molti "locali". Questo era vero anche se viveva lì dai 5 ai 18 anni e la sorella minore era nata e cresciuta lì. Non fraintendermi, per favore. Sono cresciuto a New York, ora vivo nel New Mexico e amo profondamente le Hawaii, e ho amore, rispetto e conoscenza delle molte culture che coesistono e prosperano lì. La mia unica obiezione è l'atteggiamento degli amministratori di molte scuole locali, che non solo tollerarono, ma promossero e incoraggiarono quel bigottismo. Ovunque esista e si perpetua in tutto il mondo, il bigottismo danneggia così tante persone! Ciò è vero indipendentemente da quale delle varie razze, culture, etnie, tipi fisici e / o orientamenti sessuali, religiosi o politici siano presi di mira.
Nonostante alcune di queste esperienze, entrambe le mie figlie mantengono un profondo amore per le Hawaii. Quando non sono profondamente danneggiate dal fanatismo, e con un diligente sostegno e guida di genitori / comunità / impiegati / famiglia, queste esperienze possono, e nei casi delle mie figlie, hanno fatto, aumentare la loro sensibilità al danno spesso insidioso ma a volte palesemente crudele che tipo di mentalità e comportamento possono influenzare gli altri. Tuttavia ovviamente non mi ha mai insegnato a scrivere senza l'uso eccessivo di frasi estenuanti, laboriosamente lunghe e run-on !! lol :-(

Kahakai è la scuola elementare pubblica a sud di Kailua-Kona. I miei figli che hanno frequentato la scuola hanno tutti apprezzato l'esperienza e la loro istruzione è progredita bene - gli insegnanti sono meravigliosi con i bambini ed è stato un piacere trattare come genitori.

C'è un punto relativo alle scuole pubbliche delle Hawaii che vorrei affrontare: prima di trasferirci alle Hawaii, abbiamo sentito molte prove aneddotiche che i bambini bianchi della terraferma venivano scelti e vittime di bullismo nelle scuole pubbliche, ma sono felice di riferirlo che i miei figli non hanno avuto questo problema qui. Sulla base dell'esperienza della nostra famiglia, consiglierei questa scuola ad altri genitori senza riserve.

Mi sono laureato in questa scuola (sono al liceo in questo momento) e ho pensato che questa scuola fosse davvero buona. Sicuramente mi ha aiutato a prepararmi per la scuola media.
