L'Ufficio Corsi di Laurea ISE ha grossi problemi. Per uno non hanno gli orari corretti pubblicati. Non intendo solo la loro pagina Google; anche il sito web del dipartimento ha sbagliato. Noterai un pezzo di carta attaccato alla porta una volta arrivato. Inoltre, non provare nemmeno a venire durante l'ora di pranzo; saranno sicuri di non avere nessuno disponibile. Volevo iscrivermi alla loro classe più introduttiva, IE300. Questo non era possibile online anche se si diceva che c'erano solo 7/60 studenti registrati. Quando vado nel loro ufficio mi viene detto che il corso non verrà offerto questo trimestre; non sapevano nemmeno che fosse elencato lì e le persone erano iscritte per questo. Più tardi, scopro che terranno la lezione, ma hanno reso impossibile la registrazione perché era elencata solo una delle coppie lezione / discussione. Sono tornato nel loro ufficio e ho dovuto chiedere di sistemare anche questo.

La maggior parte di questi incidenti possono essere perdonati come errori onesti, ma la mia esperienza in ufficio oggi è stata di gran lunga peggiore. Mi hanno fatto iscrivere a una lista d'attesa per iscrivermi a IE400, una classe che ha due sezioni: online e di persona. La parte assurda è che nessuna di queste sezioni è piena; infatti la sezione online conta 0/50 studenti iscritti e quella in presenza ha ancora più di 20 posti aperti. Nessuno mi dirà nemmeno quanto tempo ci vorrà prima di scoprire se posso entrare. Il massimo che mi è stato detto è "a volte quest'estate". Pagherei migliaia di euro in più per completare il prerequisito in tempo per questo corso senza alcuna garanzia di poterlo effettivamente sostenere. Dicono di aspettare che gli studenti trasferiti nel dipartimento si registrino prima di potermi dare una possibilità, ma la registrazione dei trasferimenti è terminata settimane fa. Gli unici che non si sono registrati sono alcune delle matricole in arrivo, nessuna delle quali ha i prerequisiti per fare questo corso. Dopo averlo menzionato con calma, sono stato accolto da maleducazione e urla e ho sentito il bisogno di lasciare immediatamente quel posto.

Se il mio dipartimento (MechSE) trattasse gli studenti ISE in questo modo e li facesse aspettare indefinitamente per iscriversi ai nostri corsi TAM, ISE vedrebbe quanto sono irragionevoli. Questo è completamente inaccettabile all'Università dell'Illinois ed è mio desiderio che nessuno debba mai più affrontare questo tipo di atteggiamento in questo campus.
