Mark Twain telephone company has been sticking it ...

Mark Twain telephone company has been sticking it to people for years via mandating ALL CUSTOMERS MUST PAY FOR A LANDLINE IF YOU WANT INTERNET. Their explanation was always that their internet used the same copper line as their phone service and would not work without a landline.
Well guess what!? We now have fiber internet being installed by this company. I asked if the fiber required a landline to work. The answer was "No. But you will still have to pay for a landline", which is $30 and change. When I asked why, she said management had a meeting and they decided that everybody will still have to pay for a landline no matter what.
My question is how can you LEGALLY CHARGE somebody for something they do not want, and do not require, in order to obtain the service that they do want, which in this case is internet service?
The FCC thought this was an interesting question as well, and encourage me to file a complaint, which I will probably do. I'm glad I have internet out where I live, but I'm not going to be taken advantage of through unscrupulous business practices. I feel it's time to address this problem. What do all you think?
