The Migration Policy Institute (MIP) is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank that provides analysis, development, and evaluation of migration and refugee policies at local, national, and international levels. It aims to meet the demand for pragmatic and thoughtful responses to the challenges and opportunities that large-scale migration, whether voluntary or forced, presents to communities and institutions. Its research topics include border security, education, employment and the economy, illegal immigration and interior enforcement, immigrant integration, immigrant profiles and demographics, immigration policy and law, international governance, migration and development, refugee and asylum policy, and more. The Migration Policy Institute was co-founded by Demetrios G. Papademetriou and [Kathleen Newland](https://www.crunchbase.com/person/kathleen-newland#/entity) in 2001 and is based in Washington, D.C.
